About our co-op
Lakewood Terrace Housing Cooperative is in the heart of East Vancouver – one block from Trout Lake with its off-leash dog park, community centre, and farmer’s market – near Commercial Drive, shopping, schools, five minutes from downtown via SkyTrain.
Our mission: Affordable homes in an inclusive, co-operative community.
Our values: Democracy, diversity, responsibility, co-operation, and peacefulness.
We are committed to the values of the Canadian co-op movement, which you can read about here.
Who lives here?
We have lots of families and single people too. Our membership reflects the diversity of our neighbourhood – with mixed incomes, ages, and cultures.
We are LGBT-friendly – and overall it’s a safe, friendly, welcoming atmosphere for all.
Volunteer expectations for members
This community is run by the efforts of the people who live here, along with a part-time maintenance co-ordinator and management company.
Each member is expected to get actively involved. On average, members volunteer four hours per month – in a combination of meetings, follow-up tasks, and outdoor work parties.
Our committees include: Finance, Maintenance, Membership, Social/Children’s, Safety and Security, Landscaping, and Member Relations. We have General Members Meetings two to four times per year – held in the evenings, lasting about an hour. Everyone is expected to attend, but we understand when people are unavailable due to work or other commitments that can’t be rescheduled.
Pet-friendly environment
Pets are welcomed warmly if they come with responsible human companions who will follow our pet policy.
