Lakewood Terrace Housing Co-op is located in the heart of East Vancouver; blocks away from Trout Lake with its off-leash dog park, a community centre and farmer’s market. It is also within walking distance of an elementary school, a high-school, Commercial Drive, shops, coffee houses, public transit, and the greenway (Vancouver city bike paths) part of the the metro Vancouver bike system (bike routes and events) .
Our mission: Affordable homes in an inclusive, co-operative community.
Our values: Democracy, diversity, responsibility, co-operation, and peacefulness.
We are committed to the values of the Canadian Co-op Movement.
Who lives here?
Our membership reflects the diversity of our neighbourhood: individuals and families; people of all genders, ages, religion, various incomes and cultures. We strive to create a safe, friendly and welcoming atmosphere for all.
This community is run by the efforts of the people who live here, along with a part-time maintenance co-ordinator and management company.
Each member is expected to get actively involved. On average, members volunteer four hours per month – in a combination of meetings, follow-up tasks, and outdoor work parties.
Our members contribute their time and skills by participating actively in one (or more than one) of our community Committees: Finance, Maintenance, Membership, Social/Children’s, Safety and Security, Landscaping, and Member Relations. Also members participate at General Members (GM) Meetings which take place two to four times per year; everyone is expected to attend GMs.
